This month, we sat down with Elliot Meakin, Foreman, to find out more about his role in the business, what C&C means to him, and get his insight into what makes C&C different from other steel fabricators in the industry.

Check out his full interview for the inside scoop.

What is your name and role at C&C?

I’m Elliot and I’m the Foreman/ Production Manager of our smaller workshop, Unit 14. I oversee goods coming in and going out, make sure we’re keeping customers happy and working closely with Gary (Firth, Production Manager) and Chris (Wallage, Managing Director) from the main site.

My job is hectic and never stops, sometimes there’s quiet periods but not very often! Normally I have 10 halves of jobs on my desk at one point or another during the day, and customers ringing me for jobs and quotes. It’s a balancing act of each side, as well as the guys on the floor wanting help, and Natalie (Wallage, Company Secretary) who I share an office with asking me to help too. I wouldn’t change it though.

How long have you worked at C&C?

I think it’ll be seven years at the end of August, and it’s absolutely flown by!

How did you get into the industry?

Well, I’ve got over 35 years in metalwork. I was 19 when I started, when someone was looking for someone to come in and do a bit of an apprenticeship and learn.

Then I sort of fell into it as I had relatives working at the same place and just went from there really, it’s become something I really enjoy.

In your own words, what is C&C Fabrications?

C&C Fabrications do a full service for the metal industry and can make anything and everything (within reason!) with our own laser cutter and powder coating capabilities.

We’ve also got our own press brakes, anything a customer wants we can make it if we’ve got the space in the workshop.

What does C&C mean to you?

Well, it’s a family company at its heart, Chris (Wallage) started the company nearly 30 years ago now, he’s got quite a lot of family and friends working here.

So, we’re all fairly close knit, which makes it a great place to work. A lot of people have also been here for a lot of years. One lad we work with came here from school and now he’s in his 30s! So, it’s nice that so many of us stick around.

Why do customers choose to work with C&C?

I think what makes us different is the fact that it’s been run by the same person for over 29 years, and we offer a full service of metalworking to the metal industry, right from taking drawings or plans from customers (in all sorts of states) and developing those into complete mock ups and CAD drawings for them to review.

Not a lot of companies can provide the end-to-end service, especially with powder coating facilities on site too. We provide everything, it’s a one stop shop!

We have our own installation team and can deliver right to site for customers if they require it, and it reassures them that the piece is fitted correctly.

Our customers know from first step to last step, we’re right there to support them and provide all the services they need under one roof.
