The Benefits of UK Manufacturing

Covid 19 has been tough for the manufacturing industry. However, we’re starting to see light at the end of the tunnel and there are early signs that 2022 is going to be a brilliant year for UK manufacturers. Future growth of the manufacturing industry is set to be double what has been first forecasted, with a 7.8% increase of the industry expected, compared to the original 3.9% (Make UK).

It’s really important that as a nation we support British manufacturers. As an industry they employ over 2.7 million people and are the 9th largest manufacturer worldwide by output (Make UK). That’s why we’ve identified some benefits of working with home-grown suppliers and supporting British manufacturers.

High Quality

By buying British, customers can enjoy a high quality of production. As the products will not have to imported from abroad, their overall travel distance will be significantly less. This reduces the chances that the products will be damaged in transit. It would also be easier for customers to contact and order replacements if there is damage as it is likelier more straight forward to build a rapport with a UK supplier than someone overseas.

Choosing British manufacturing means you’ll know where the steel used to fabricate your products is coming from. This guarantees quality as you’ll know the steel being used is of the best quality and locate it right back to the source.

Lower Carbon Footprint

The UK government’s 25 year plan to improve sustainability has whipped UK manufacturing businesses into shape when it comes to reducing their carbon footprint and becoming more sustainable. This means businesses are actively finding ways to decrease their emissions during the manufacturing process.

In comparison, a good number of oversees manufacturers do not have these legislations in place, meaning their carbon footprint could be extremely high and causing huge amounts of damage to the environment.

Excellent Customer Care

UK manufacturers can offer a brilliant service to other UK businesses and build trust through transparency and in-person communications. Being able to meet customers in person and give them the opportunity to visit manufacturer’s premises allows customers to be engaged with what they are buying and lead to a good relationship between the manufacturer and customer. This isn’t always the case with overseas manufacturers as the logistics of meeting can be difficult.

Support the UK economy

Choosing a UK manufacturing company won’t just benefit the customer, it’ll also benefit and support the local and national economy. By increasing work for UK manufacturers, more jobs can be created in local areas and opportunities can become available to provide skills for future generations.

And this isn’t just the case for large businesses. By supporting smaller, independent UK manufacturers, the economy will also grow as small businesses account for 60% of all private-sector employment (Group55).

As the UK economy recovers from COVID-19, UK manufacturers will continue to drive business and whilst there are certain benefits to choosing overseas manufacturing, there’s never been a better time to ‘Buy British’ and celebrate UK manufacturing.
